Stars to host Pittsburgh Jr Pens

2010-02-10

Brandon Conley brings veteran leadership to Stars CHA C team

The Buffalo Stars Empire Junior B and CHA Junior C teams will be home this weekend as they host the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins in their respective league play.

In Empire Junior B action, the Buffalo Stars look forward to hosting the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins.  The last time these two teams met, they played both games to a 4 all draw in Pittsburgh.  The Pens trail Buffalo by 6 points in the American Conference but have 2 games in hand on the Stars. This makes this weekends match up even more important as an 8 point swing is at stake.  Buffalo, with a record of 20-11-4 is in 5th place in the Conference but has 2 games in hand on 4th place Syracuse.  The Stars will need to win both this weekend to continue to move up in placement for post season positioning.  After going 14 games without a loss dating back to Thanksgiving Weekend, the Stars have slumped slightly going winless in their last 4.  Buffalo is a solid team and looks to rebound with a good weekend of play.  After this weekend, the Stars travel to New Jersey to face off against the Wildcats in a pair prior to returning home to meet the NY Coyotes in the close of the regular season February 27-28th at Holiday Rinks.

The Stars CHA Junior C team looks to continue their winning ways. On a roll since the Christmas Holiday when the tea m was in last place, the Stars have lost only once in their last 10 games and have moved into 3rd place in the league with a record of 10-12-3.  Much of this success can be attributed to the Stars potent offense which has amassed 105 goals in 25 games, 52 of which have come in the last ten.  Ashton Laird, Anthony DiChristopher, Travis Densmore and Brandon Conley lead the way offensively for Buffalo.  The Stars have also received stellar goaltending from the duo of TJ Schenkel and Jonathan Bragg and are finding leadership on the blueline from the entire defensive corps.  The Stars host the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins this weekend.  The last time these two teams met, the Stars swept the series in Pittsburgh.  With a single win this weekend, Buffalo will clinch a post season playoff spot.  The Stars close the regular season this weekend.

The Stars CHA B team has the weekend off. They return to action next weekend in Jersey as they face off against the Wildcats. Buffalo will return home February 27-28 as they host the New Hampshire Monarchs to close the regular season.  Buffalo has already clinched a post season playoff position.
