The Buffalo Hornets PeeWee Major AA team took home runner-up hardware at the Annual Winterhurst President’s Day Tournament in Cleveland Ohio.
After a tough 2-1 defeat in the opener, with the opponent’s winning goal coming at the 30 second mark of the 3rd period, the Hornets were able to capture 4 out of 5 point in each of their next two games to claw their way to the finals (including a win against the Hornet’s cross town rival, Caz Park). The finals proved to be another hard fought battle as the Hornets faced the Cleveland Gold team that had defeated them in game one. Cleveland Gold jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Hornets again clawed their way back into contention. Down 3-2 in the waning minutes, the Hornets put on a gallant effort peppering the Cleveland Gold goaltender with numerous shots but could not get the equalizer. The Hornets walked away with their heads up high knowing their overall tournament play was excellent.
