Stars regular season finale
2010-02-23
The Buffalo Stars Empire Junior B and CHA Junior B teams close the regular season at home this weekend as the teams host the New York Coyotes and New Hampshire Monarchs respectively. Both Stars B teams, along with the Stars CHA C team have already clinched post season play. However, this weekend is important as it still determines post season positioning and both teams are jockeying for higher standings and more favorable first game opponent.
The Stars Empire will host the NY Coyotes at Holiday this Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 1pm. The Coyotes with only 7 points on the season have struggled against the Stars losing by a combined score of 21-2 in the previous 2 game set between these teams. Buffalo with a league record 23-12-4 and 50 points anticipates gaining all 4 points and taking over 3rd place in the American Conference. Depending on what Brewster and Bridgewater do in their final games of the season, the Stars could secure 5th place overall in the league. This would almost certainly assure the Stars of an appearance at Nationals.
The Stars trail Brewster by 1 point but Brewster has to face off against the strong New Jersey Hitmen this weekend. Brewster would need to sweep the Hitmen in order to keep hold on 3rd place. In the National Conference, Bridgewater has 3 games left and the same 50 points as Buffalo. The Bandits would need to take 5 of 6 points in their final 3 games in order to surpass the Stars in the overall standings. A combination of a single Bridgewater loss and a Brewster loss, coupled with 2 Stars wins will assure Buffalo the coveted 5th place overall position.
In Continental Junior B action, the Stars will play the New Hampshire Monarchs for the first time ever. Games are this Saturday at 4:15pm and Sunday at 10am at Holiday Twin Rinks. The Stars will need to take all 4 points from New Hampshire to assure themselves of at least a 5th place overall finish in the league. The Stars could still take 4th place depending on what the Philadelphia Blazers do in their final 3 games of the season. A loss of a single point this weekend will relegate Buffalo to the 6th place spot and an opening playoff game against the 3rd place team. As of today, the 3rd place overall team looks to be the Mass Maple Leafs. This is not the option the Buffalo Stars wish to face in the opening game. The Stars CHA B team has a league record of 20-11-3.
This weekend for the Stars will be part of the Buffalo Hornets 38th Annual International Friendship Series with the Scarborough Young Leafs from Toronto. The weekend will be full of family fun activities. This is also Buffalo Stars Fan Appreciation Weekend and admission is FREE to all.
